Assistant Network Administrator & Technical Support Specialist

Kerr Wood Leidal Associates Ltd. (KWL) is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Network Administrator & Technical Support Specialist with 5 – 10 years experience to work in our Burnaby office.  Work hours are generally weekdays during business hours but may require after hours or weekends on a call-out basis.  Some travel may be required to the various branch offices.  Reporting to the Network Manager, typical assignments will include:

  • assist the Network Manager to research, identify, develop and implement corrective measures to address outstanding technical issues; 
  • the daily administration and technical support of desktops, laptops;
  • participate in and document changes, additions and removals of hardware, software, users and peripheral equipment on an ongoing basis; and
  • administration of printers, plotters and related peripheral devices, network infrastructure servers, client/server applications, the communications network.

You will have demonstrated technical support experience in a diverse computing environment and ability to work with people with a wide range of technical backgrounds. You are personable, professional in your appearance and demeanour.  You have exceptional interpersonal, and organizational skills complimented with integrity, respect for confidentiality, sound judgment and decision making skills. You are self-motivated, team-spirited, can work under pressure, multi-task, prioritize work and possess strong written and oral communication skills (English).

Essential qualifications, experience and skills include the following:

  • able to install, configure, maintain and repair desktop and laptop computers for professional staff, including drive imaging, software application installation, virus and malware eradication; 
  • extensive knowledge of and experience with systems and network hardware and software in a predominantly Microsoft environment, including working knowledge of Active Directory and MS Windows operating systems;
  • intimate knowledge of networking protocols (including DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, OSPF, RIP), routing and switching, storage devices, backup systems, and disaster recovery;
  • working knowledge of Anti-virus software, firewalls, E-Mail filtering, VPN hardware and software;
  • experience in supporting wireless networking hardware and protocols.  

Additional desired qualifications, experience and skills may include:

  • designation as a Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) or Microsoft Certified IT Professional (MCITP);
  • experience with Linux servers and appliances;
  • experience with and/or certification in VMWare virtualization;
  • experience in supporting a Microsoft Exchange e-mail system;  
  • experience in other operating systems, ie; DOS, IBM OS2, Novell Netware, MAC OS, UNIX, etc.; 
  • experience in supporting MS SQL database applications, IIS server, LAMP applications.
