In the Community

At Kerr Wood Leidal we are aware of our social responsibilities, as members of our local and global communities—and our duty to contribute to the professional communities that support and educate us as engineers.

Local and Global communities

Over the years, as a company and as individuals, KWL people have made a number of efforts to improve our local environment:

  • in our Vancouver office, we initiated a Still Creek Stewardship initiative which included riparian enhancement efforts and the purchase and planting (by enthusiastic volunteer staff) of four species of trees: western red cedar, Douglas fir, black cottonwood and red alder
  • staffers organized a unique and eccentric regatta of canoes, kayaks and home-built watercraft, which travelled down a three-kilometre stretch Still Creek (once known as of the most polluted waterways in BC)

The company has organized donation efforts raise money for global catastrophes including tsunami and earthquake relief. When staffers have volunteered to help in relief efforts—including one who worked in Pakistan on earthquake relief, and another who took an extended leave of absence to work on rural water supply projects in Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda—KWL has actively supported their efforts, and organized fundraising.

Professional community

Kerr Wood Leidal is, above all, a professional engineering organization, and we are proud to contribute to our professional communities. Our teams are led by some of the most respected professionals in our industry, and we actively participate in the organizations that advance knowledge and standards.

We encourage our staff to join the organizations that are relevant to their professional specialties, and to submit papers, make presentations and/or take leadership positions. KWL people are involved at board and presidential levels of various organizations, including:
