KWL World-Wide Community Efforts

Jeff Howard, a long-term employee of KWL, took a leave of absence in order to volunteer in Eastern Africa for 11 months with the organization African Community Technical Services (ACTS). This work involved investigating, planning, designing, and assisting with the construction of rural water supply projects in Uganda, Tanzania and Rwanda.

KWL strongly supported Jeff in this endeavour. Donations were submitted to ACTS from both KWL and the staff. Jeff and his family returned to Victoria in July 2008.

KWL Wins Environmental Award

KWL was awarded the City of Burnaby’s 2007 Burnaby Environmental Star Award for Business Stewardship. This was for its work in raising awareness of the environmental importance of Still Creek. KWL’s efforts included hosting two annual “Still Creek Regattas”, fundraising events for creek protection and enhancement. The award was presented at a gala luncheon on June 10 to president Mike Currie, and to Mike Homenuke, who was instrumental in creating and promoting the regatta.
